Legal
Terms of Service
The rules for using Spur, in plain English.
Draft prepared September 20, 2026.
1. Acceptance
By accessing or using Spur — including the Spur API (api.spur.cards), the hosted Model Context Protocol server at mcp.spur.cards, and the Spur iOS app (collectively, the “Service”) — you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the United States to use Spur. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
3. What Spur Does
Spur helps you pick the credit card most likely to earn the most rewards for a given purchase. You supply the merchant, the amount, and either the wallet you have registered with Spur or an explicit list of cards to compare; Spur returns a recommendation with earn-rate math and, where applicable, a disclosed affiliate application link.
Spur does not process payments, issue cards, lend money, or move funds. Spur has no field for a card number.
4. Access
The Service is currently offered on a waitlist and invite basis. Access is granted at Spur's sole discretion, and Spur may approve, decline, suspend, or revoke access at any time, with or without notice. Spur may change, limit, or discontinue features at any time.
5. Your Account
To use the Service you create an account with an email address and a password (or, in the iOS app, via Sign in with Apple). You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify Spur promptly at contact@spur.cards of any unauthorized use.
You may generate one or more API keys to authorize an AI assistant (including Meta's Muse) to make requests on your behalf. Each key is shown to you exactly once. Treat it like a password. You may revoke a key at any time from the same onboarding page you created it on; revocation takes effect promptly and, in the rare event of a cache-eviction failure, within five minutes.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to extract the source code or data of the Service.
- Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information.
- Use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive purpose, including circumventing card-issuer terms of service.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other users' data, or Spur's systems.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, or place undue load on it (Spur enforces per-user and per-key rate limits; circumventing them is a violation of these Terms).
- Share your account, your password, or an API key with anyone other than an AI assistant acting under your control.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without Spur's written permission.
7. Financial and Rewards Disclaimer
Spur's recommendations are generated automatically and are for informational purposes only. They are not financial, tax, or legal advice. Credit card reward rates, categories, caps, fees, and terms are set by card issuers and change frequently. Spur does not guarantee that any recommendation, reward rate, or point value is current, accurate, or available to you. Always confirm the terms directly with your card issuer before relying on them.
You are solely responsible for your own spending, borrowing, and card decisions. Choosing a card to earn rewards may not be in your overall financial interest. Spur is not a financial institution and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any card issuer or network.
8. AI Assistants and Third-Party Clients
If you connect Spur to an AI assistant such as Meta's Muse, that assistant uses your API key to make requests on your behalf. Spur has no relationship with the assistant beyond responding to authenticated requests. The assistant is a separate service governed by its own terms and privacy policy.
You are responsible for how the assistant uses your Spur account. You may revoke the assistant's access at any time by revoking its API key.
9. Bank Connections and Optional Integrations
Connecting a financial account is optional and, at the date of these Terms, disabled in production. If Spur enables an integration such as Plaid in the future, use of it will be governed by the third party's own terms and privacy policies. Spur does not receive or store your full card numbers, online banking credentials, or account numbers.
10. Pricing and Free Features
Stateless card comparisons (asking Spur to compare a specific list of cards) are free and do not require a paid tier. Some wallet-based features (recommendations against a saved wallet, spending goals, insights) are gated behind a premium tier; during the current launch window that gate is disabled and all features are available to all accounts. Premium pricing, once activated, will be disclosed at the point of purchase.
Any paid subscription offered through the iOS app is billed and managed entirely by Apple under Apple's own terms. Refund requests for App Store subscriptions are made to and decided solely by Apple. Except where required by law or granted by Apple, payments are non-refundable.
11. Affiliate Links
Some card recommendations include an application link that earns Spur a commission when a user applies for and is approved for a card. Whenever any such link appears in a response, the Service attaches the disclosure “Heads up: Spur may earn a commission if you apply through this link.” The commission does not influence which card is recommended.
12. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, and content, is owned by Spur and its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Spur grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.
All card names and issuer marks are trademarks of their respective owners. Spur is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover, or any card issuer. Any card visuals shown are illustrative and not the actual issuer card art.
13. Your Data and Privacy
You retain ownership of the data you submit to Spur. By using the Service you grant Spur a limited license to process that data solely to provide and improve the Service. Data practices are described in the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms. You may request deletion of your data at any time; see the Privacy Policy for the deletion path.
14. Service Availability
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Spur does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, and may modify, suspend, or discontinue it at any time.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Spur and its operators, officers, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, rewards, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the Service. Spur's total liability for any claim will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid to Spur in the twelve months before the claim or USD $100.
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Spur and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
17. Termination
Spur may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or if Spur discontinues the Service. You may stop using the Service at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including disclaimers, limitation of liability, and intellectual property — will survive.
18. Changes to These Terms
Spur may update these Terms. Material changes will update the “Last updated” date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
19. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing any formal claim, you agree to first contact Spur to try to resolve the dispute informally.
